Symposium: Expressionism Revisited

Presented and moderated by our PI Andrea Meyer and Sol Izquierdo de la Viña (TU Berlin) as part of the workshops and panels being held at the International Symposium, June 1–3, 2023, Brücke Museum

Sol Izquierdo de la Vina and Andrea Meyer are holding a seminar on
expressionism for bachelor’s students at the Technische Universität
Berlin in the summer semester of 2023 to mark the occasion of the “Revisiting Expressionism” symposium that took place two weeks ago.

Andrea Meyer and Sol Izquierdo de la Vina contributed to Section III: “Schlaglichter auf aktuelle Forschung” (Spotlights on Current Research). This panel focused on the shifts in perspective, the opening toward cultural studies approaches, and the deconstruction of popular narratives that have brought much movement to international xxpressionism research in recent years.

The workshop 4 “And What Next? Voids and Ideas for the Future”
was moderated by Andrea Meyer and attended by students of the seminar. Among other topics, the workshop addressed the question of how to exhibit expressionism in museums in order to ensure that it is relevant for the younger generation.
