Making museum professionals: Transnational forces Workshop

Invitation to join the Transnational forces Workshop, co-organized by Kate Hill, our PI Andrea Meyer, Tamsin Russell, Nushelle de Silva and Claire Wintle, as part of the project Making Museum Professionals, Thursday, 11 Juni 2024, 9:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m., Technische Universität Berlin

Transnational forces Workshop

This workshop focuses on the impact of transnational forces on museum professions and professionals, from 1850 to the present day. It aims to explore the ways in which these forces have circulated and how they decentre Eurocentric museologies. The workshop will:
- examine the transnational forces that have impacted on museum professionals, including colonialism, ‘development’ and war, their effects and legacies
- consider professionals’ mobility (willing or unwilling), their networks of patronage and influence
- uncover the mechanisms that have and do produce movement of expertise, new ideas and knowledge around the world
- ask how ‘centre’ and ‘periphery’ on a global scale were and are constructed and contested through transnational forces
